I'm never buying another thing from Creative Assembly unless it's made out of pure gold. Empire: Total War was complete garbage on release and after a year of patches it deserves no better than a 8.0 - none of these glowing reviews that it got on release.

If it get rave reviews from the fans I might join the bandwagon, but the Steam connection(I assume here) is a killer as well

Agreed.  And if it is offered only on Steam (even if you purchase the cd) then I am absolutely not buying it.  They have completely lost my trust with that type of DRM.

Ah so that teaser earlier was for this... I KNEW IT!... (Reads...)

Sounds good but... Hero units?... Wait WHAT? Dynasty Warriors? ahhh... my gut says no but hopefully we see more info later on.... And hopefully it comes on Impulse!

Any possibility the first Shogun Total War could be re-released on Impulse? I would like to try it.

Ugh, I was really hoping for Rome II. I'll see how this turns out. Hopefully CA will sctually try to have decent AI this time.

I'll pass.  I have Rome and Shogun, and I see no need to buy either of them again, especially if it's the same Steam-ing pile of crap Empire was.  In my opinion, Rome did nothing wrong and is easily the best in the series - they need to top that if they want my money.

I'm sorry but I can't just right this game off because it might only be on steam. This is Shogun for god sakes...

I wouldn't worry about there being a Rome II. I mean it was pretty much their greatest hit...why wouldn't they make another and continue to farm us of all our money.

Med. II was a solid enhancement over their original visit, so I'm hopeful for this one.  Empire was definitely a lemon, and I took a pass on Napoleon.  We'll see how it goes, but I hope they're not counting on a preorder!

I used the love the total war series. I passed on empire and Napeleon for now after the no confidence vote from the majority of players at the TW fan forums.

What gives me particular hope for Shogun II is the back-to-basics philosophy. Makes me feel that they might be returning to the fundamentals of tactics and strategy that Shogun embodied. I haven't played Shogun in a while but I remember it had fairly challenging battles... although I may have just been a shittier player back then.

They really overreached with Empire and I hope with Shogun they'll concentrate on solid gameplay.

Would there be a chance of the first Shogun to appear on Impulse?

on Jun 03, 2010

Rome and Medieval II ARE the best games in the Historical TBS war strategy genre. Hands down.

During the honeymoon phase, these games took top priority over any Civ game out there. The downside, of course, is that there is only so much you can do (repetition) and the games take infinitely long (the way I play) ...

Therefore after the honeymoon phase they are easily replaced by Civ IV/ Fall From Heaven 2 (also Civ IV is historical TBS w/o the war strategy part ... so its not "completely" in the same genre)

But alas, I suppose what I planned on saying was that I've never gotten a chance at playing the original Shogun Total War ... so I would like to be able to purchase this ancient and elusive game

... I could have bought it as a "complete edition" pack during the days between Rome:Alexander and Medieval II .... but I already had Rome and Medieval I so it was just too pricey at the time.

I was hoping for WW2..damnit. Well, Shogun 2 might be good. There's a sentence there though that bothers me...

"After the excesses of Empire, Shogun 2 is taking a Zen approach. Though the word "accessible" is often code for "plain," in the case of Shogun 2, it's clear that the designers want to maintain a tighter focus on the core elements and not give in to feature creep."

Not too sure how I like the sound of that. I guess that depends on what they're calling "features" these days.

I know one thing for sure. It better have some f'kin Ninja's in it or it's a "No Sale".....LoL.
